The Vic Mell / Jim Walsh Foundation
Named for two of Benedictine’s most respected individuals, the Vic Mell/Jim Walsh Foundation began as a scholarship fund honoring Vic Mell, who coached football, basketball and baseball at Benedictine from 1950 to 1969. The money raised for the Vic Mell Scholarship was collected through the Vic Mell Golf Tournament, which began 16 years ago in memory of Mell.
In 2006, the name of the tournament was changed to the Vic Mell/Jim Walsh Golf Tournament to honor both men. Jim Walsh took over as coach of the Benedictine Cadets in 1970, and spent the next 24 years as an admired coach and mentor for thousands of Benedictine students. Between the two, Mell and Walsh have given over 50 years of dedication and leadership to the school and influenced the lives of countless young men.
